A brief history...

The inaugural Rugby World Cup (RWC) was held in New Zealand and Australia in 1987. The first winners of the Webb Ellis Cup were New Zealand. In 1991 Australia were the winners at Twickenham; South Africa, as hosts, were the winners in 1995; and in 1999

Australia won the Cup for a second time at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. In 2003 England upset the southern hemisphere apple cart by winning in Sydney.

And, in 2007, England once again reached the finals in Paris, against the odds, but were beaten on penalties by South Africa – despite scoring a disputed try that could have turned the game in England’s favour.
